Thompson Honored by MAAC

LAWRENCEVILLE—Rider University senior Jason Thompson was named the co-winner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for all games played January 7-13.  It marks the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season Thompson has won the award.

In two games last week Thompson, a 6’11”, 250 pound forward from Mt. Laurel (Lenape) compiled 43 points, 31 rebounds, seven blocks and seven assists.

In the MAAC victory over Loyola Thompson scored six points in a 15-2 Rider run that gave the Broncs a 51-39 lead, and scored five points in a 12-2 Rider run that gave the Broncs a 63-45 lead. He finished that game with 28 points and 17 rebounds for his 11th ‘double double’ of the season and the 41st of his career.

Earlier in the week Thompson helped Rider win a MAAC game at Iona, where Rider had won just once in the last five years.

Thompson currently ranks second in the nation in rebounding (11.8), 15th in blocked shots (2.7) and 28th in the nation in scoring (20.4).

Jason Thompson now has 1,692 points, one point shy of sixth all-time at Rider and 61 points shy of fifth. His 944 career rebounds is a Rider record.

Thompson shares the MAAC Player of the Week award with the national scoring leader, Charron Fisher of Niagara.

Rider (11-6, 4-2 MAAC) plays at Manhattan Saturday evening and hosts Iona Monday.
