Rider Signs Two

LAWRENCEVILLE—The Rider University wrestling team has added a pair of highly-touted recruits to its 2008-09 roster. “We are very excited about the addition to our program of two very accomplished high school wrestlers that have also had success on the national level,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.

Tyler Smith of Belvidere, NJ and Zac Cibula of Luxemburg, Wisconsin have signed national letters of intent to further their educations and wrestling careers at Rider, Taylor announced.

“Bringing Zac Cibula in from Wisconsin helps expand our recruiting base outside of the east coast and keeping Tyler Smith home in New Jersey allows us to keep one of the best wrestlers in the state home,” Taylor said.

Smith, a senior at Belvidere High School, was the 2007 New Jersey State runner-up at 189 pounds and also qualified for the State Championships as a sophomore.  Currently ranked 12th in the nation, Smith recently placed 5th at the NHSCA Junior National Championships at 189 pounds.

Cibula, a senior at Casco High School, is a three-time Wisconsin State champion who twice placed fifth at the Cadet National Freestyle Championships and also placed fifth at the Cadet National Greco-Roman Championships. Cibula is currently ranked eighth in the nation at 152 pounds.

“Both of these young men will help continue the strong wrestling tradition that has been established here at Rider University,” said Taylor, who has coached 12 All-Americans at Rider in the last 27 years. “They will also help us to continue to compete on the national level.”
