Rider’s Thompson MAAC Player of Week
Ranks Among National Leaders

LAWRENCEVILLE--Senior Jason Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) of the Rider University basketball team was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played December 3-9.

A 6’11” forward, Thompson became Rider’s career rebound leader last week, breaking a record that stood for 30 years.

Thompson compiled 25 points and 13 rebounds at Canisius, his seventh ‘double-double’ of the season and the 37th of his career. The 13 rebounds gives him 878 for his career, breaking the Rider record of 874 set in 1977 by Chuck Simon.

Thompson averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds last week in a pair of MAAC games on the road. In the two games he also compiled five steals, five assists and four blocked shots while shooting 66 percent from the field. In the MAAC win at Canisius Rider held a 63-50 lead before going on a 19-2 run, 10 points by Thompson, to take an 82-52 lead with 2:41 left to play.

Thompson is currently third in the nation in rebounding (11.9), 13th in blocks (3.2) and 30th in scoring (20.7).

Thompson now has 1,553 career points, eighth highest ever at Rider and 37 points shy of seventh.

Rider returns to the road for its next three games, at Monmouth December 15, at Rutgers December 21 and at Drexel December 27.
