Rider’s Thompson MAAC Player of Week

LAWRENCEVILLE—Rider University senior Jason Thompson was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week for all games played November 19-25.

Thompson (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) averaged 22.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 4.0 blocks and 3.3 assists per game in a 2-2 week for Rider.

Thompson was named to the all-tournament team at the eight-team Old Spice Classic, along with Courtney Fells of North Carolina State, Michael Beasley of Kansas State, Will Thomas of George Mason and Scottie Reynolds of Villanova.

In three games in the Old Spice Classic, against teams from the ACC, Big Ten and the Big 12, Thompson compiled 69 points, 32 rebounds and nine blocked shots.

In the victory over Penn State picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten, Thompson had 21 points and 10 rebounds for his 33rd career ‘double double’.

In the nine-point loss to eventual Old Spice champion NC State Thompson had 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Against 20th ranked Kansas State he compiled 24 points and seven rebounds, out-playing highly touted freshman Michael Beasley.

Thompson moved into second place in Rider career rebounding with 827, and needs 47 to tie the career record of 874 set in 1977.  Thompson now has 1,471 career points, one point shy of eighth place on the Rider career scoring list.

Last week Rider defeated Fairleigh Dickinson and Penn State while losing to NC State and #20 Kansas State.  Rider hosts NJIT Wednesday at 7pm.
