BETHLEHEM, Pa.-Both the Rider University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams defeated Lehigh but fell to Penn in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon, hosted by the Mountain Hawks.  “We’ve been swimming against Lehigh and Penn for the past six seasons and they always give us a great competitive meet,” said head coach Steve Fletcher.

For the Rider women’s team, senior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 400 IM (4:36.73), 200 fly (2:08.23) and 100 fly (58.78) with junior Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) winning both the one-meter (283.05) and three-meter dive (267.10).  “Priscilla has added so much to our team environment both as a trainer and as a competitor,” Fletcher said.  “She sets a good example in competition and she never backs down mentally or physically to athletes that may appear to be better on paper.  That is the great example that she sets for the team.”

“Amanda is on a mission to qualify for NCAA Nationals,” said diving coach Dennis Ceppa.  “She has a long road ahead of her but she has set her goals and she is going to try to achieve them.  She sets a great example by showing up early for practice and workouts and she has really helped our younger divers.  She puts 110 percent in everything she does and I could not ask for a better role model.”

For the Rider men’s team, junior Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) won the 100 back (52.59) and 200 back (1:56.88) with senior Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) winning the one-meter dive (277.95) and freshman Drew Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) winning the 50 free (21.58).

“We’ve tried to maintain a strong schedule so that we are always pushing our athletes to get better,” Fletcher said.  “Winning some of these meets is a confidence booster for the teams.  They are excited about the wins and our leadership has contributed to our ability to compete so far this season.”

Also for the women’s team, freshman Carmen Menendez (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) won the 100 breast (1:10.13) with the women’s 400 free relay of freshman Brianna Burns (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y./Spring Valley), freshman Alicia Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), sophomore Lovette Leonhard (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and freshman Raquel Riestra (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) winning with a time of 3:45.13.

“One of our goals as we head toward the conference championships is to bring up the depth of our team so we will score more at the championships.  That has been our focus so far this season and in the past few meets, we have shown that potential.  We are winning events and we are also taking seconds and thirds and that will make the team more successful.”

Rider travels to La Salle on Saturday, November 17 to face the Explorers and the University of Delaware in a tri-meet at 1:00pm.
