Rider’s Thompson Ranked Among National Big Men
Rider University senior Jason Thompson is ranked 24th in the nation among post players, according to FOXSports.com.
A 6’11”, 250 pound forward from Mt. Laurel, NJ (Lenape High), Thompson was recently named to the preseason CollegeInsider.com All-America team.
Jeff Goodman of FOXSports.com ranked the top 33 “post players” in the nation. “It's difficult to determine whether someone is a center or a power forward these days,” Goodman wrote, “so we're going to lump them together and give you the top 33 post players in our list of college basketball's top 100.”
Thompson is the 2007-08 Preseason Player of the Year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Thompson is the only player in Division I this season that averaged over 20 points and 10 rebounds per game last year.
“Jason has done everything he was supposed to do since he arrived at Rider and this year he is determined to make his senior year a special season,” said Rider head coach Tommy Dempsey. “We are all extremely excited to get things started.”
“Was terrific at the LeBron James Camp in July,” Goodman wrote of Thompson. “Was just one of three D-1 players last season to average more than 20 points and 10 boards with the others being Kevin Durant and Nick Fazekas.”
The season begins at Murray State November 10, and the home opener is November 17 against Delaware.
Thompson enters his senior year with 1,346 career points, 11th highest ever at Rider, and 759 rebounds, sixth highest ever at Rider.
Earlier this month Thompson was named to the Collegehoops.net Preseason Mid-Major All-America Team
The 2006-07 Broncs doubled their win total from the previous season, and return all but one letter winner this season.
