PISCATAWAY—The Rider women’s swimming and diving team defeated Seton Hall in a quad meet at Rutgers, losing to the host Scarlet Knights and the Richmond Spiders and the men’s team lost to Seton Hall in a dual meet also at Rutgers Friday afternoon.  “It was a good early season performance from our group,” said head coach Steve Fletcher.

For the Rider women, sophomore Kellyanne Tomasula (Sussex/Vernon Township) won the 100 back (57.55) with junior Prisilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) winning the 200 butterfly (2:05.13).  Modrov also placed third in the 400 IM (4:34.18).

Junior diver Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) won the one-meter (260.35) and placed second on the three-meter (243.60).

“We swam against a highly competitive group on the women’s side,” Fletcher said.  “How we fared is a great source of pride for the team, especially coming home with a win.  The victory was really impressive.”

For the Rider men, senior diver Dylan Korn (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake) won the one-meter (272.40) and the three-meter (227.75) with junior Josh Rosenbluth (Lawrenceville/Lawrence) winning the 100 back (51.61) and 200 back (1:52.41).

“Josh had to sit out last week due to an injury,” said Fletcher.  “I think he was really excited to get in the water and race today for Rider.  It was evident in his performances.”

Freshman Drew Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 100 free (48.34) and placed second in the 50 free (21.49).

“We have a young team and the freshmen have performed well so far this season,” Fletcher added.  “Drew is showing his talent early in the season and he is proving that he is someone we can rely on each meet to swim fast.”

The men’s 200 free relay of Modrov, sophomore Brian Brady (Turnersville, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) Rosenbluth and senior Peter Starr (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area Senior) won with a time of 1:26.89.

Rider hosts Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Marist on November 3.

“We are pleased with the way the season is progressing,” Fletcher added.  “We are taking it one meet at a time.  We will get a taste of one of the strongest opponents in the conference early and I think that will be a good motivator for the team throughout the season.”
