Rider Wins MAAC Swimmer, Diver of Week Awards
LAWRENCEVILLE—Two members of the Rider University swimming & diving team were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Junior Priscilla Modrov (Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge) was named the Swimmer of the Week and junior Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) was named the Diver of the Week.
Modrov set two Rider pool records Saturday in the season opening meet against UMBC, winning the 100 butterfly in 57.47 and winning the 200 butterfly in 2:05.47. She also won the 200 individual medley (2:08.71), and swam on the winning 200 medley relay.
“Priscilla was incredible today, as always,” said Rider head coach Steve Fletcher.
Burke won both the 1-meter and the 3-meter (242.63) dives in Rider’s season-opening meet with UMBC. Burke set a new Rider record in the 1-meter (274.87) while qualifying for the NCAA Zone meet.
“Qualifying for Zones in the first meet of the year is incredible,” Fletcher said. “Last year at Zones she was in third place at one point, the highest place we’ve ever had at that meet, where the top two go to Nationals. She’s the real deal.”
Rider swims at Rutgers October 26 with Seton Hall and Richmond.
