LAWRENCEVILLE—The Broncs defeated the Red Flash in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.  “It was good for us to play a team that we were pretty even with,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “As you can see by the tie-breakers, the teams were evenly matched.”

For Rider (4-6), junior Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) won 7-5, 6-3 at first singles and teamed with freshman Josh Rultenberg (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) to win at first doubles 8-2.  Rultenberg won at second singles 6-1, 6-4.

Sophomore Marc Ashed (Vineland) won at fourth singles 7-5, 6-3 and teamed with sophomore Will Haight (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) to win at second doubles 8-3.

“Marc started out slow and actually trailed before battling back,” Torres said.  “He played a steady match for us today.  Marc handled the windy conditions well.”

“It went well today,” Ashed said.  “I got down early but I have been doing that all season so I didn’t get down on myself and I battled back.  I try to not play ‘risky’ tennis.  I usually place the ball deep in the court and with the wind blowing left to right, I tried to keep the ball more in the center.”

Freshman Chris Esposito (Ocean Grove/Neptune) won at fifth singles 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 with senior Jim Leone (Forked River/Lacey Township) posting a 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) win at sixth singles.  Esposito and freshman Rob Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) won at third doubles 8-3.

Rider, winners of two straight matches, travels to Drexel for a non-conference match on Wednesday.
