The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Loyola Saturday. The Greyhounds scored in the 62nd minute of play. Loyola out-shot Rider 13-2. Rider freshman goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves. Junior Lauren Mahar (Barnegat, N.J./Colonia) scored her first goal of the season just 25 seconds into overtime to give Rider a victory at Delaware State Tuesday night. Mahar, a defender, took a free kick from 40 yards out to win the game on the golden goal. Junior Kayla Devlin (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) scored on a corner kick from freshman Lauren Musumeci (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) in the 10th minute of play to give Rider (5-4-3) a 1-0 lead. Alex Post made four saves and made Devlin’s goal hold up until Delaware State scored in the 85th minute to send the game into overtime. In overtime Mahar took a 40 yard free kick to end the contest. Rider out-shot Delaware State 16-9.

Field Hockey

Rider senior goalie Jen LoCastro (Camden Catholic/Cherry Hill) made five saves at Lafayette. Senior Stephanie Walker (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic) scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season seven minutes into the game to lead the Broncs to a 1-0 Northeast Conference win on Sunday, giving head coach Lori Hussong the 100th victory of her career.  The breakaway goal was the 35th of Walker’s career, sixth best on the all-time scoring list.  Jen LoCastro picked up her seventh win of the season and the second shutout in her career.  LoCastro made four saves as the Broncs out-shot the Red Flash 12-6.  LoCastro is currently 12th in the nation averaging 7.64 saves per game and is 13th in save percentage (.793).

Volleyball

Despite jumping out to a two games to one lead, the Broncs lost to Marist on Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match.  Marist won the match 30-21, 19-30, 20-30, 30-24, 15-13. For Rider junior Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) posted a ‘double-double’ with 21 kills and 20 digs.  Johnson also picked up career dig number 1,000 in the second game. The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at Loyola Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds won in three straight 30-22, 30-25, 30-26. For Rider, junior Lindsay Brant (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had 11 digs and nine kills with a .222 attack percentage. Also for the Broncs, sophomore Amy Jeary (Depew, N.Y./St. Mary’s) had 17 digs, with junior Lacey Johnson adding 16 digs and six kills. Rider freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) had 28 assists and eight digs.

The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game to Fairfield Sunday.  It marked the third straight game that Rider lost 1-0, and the second straight game that the Broncs out-shot their opponent. Fairfield scored in the 61st minute of play on a goal by Sam Bailey, his team-high sixth of the season. Rider out-shot Fairfield 22-13.Rider junior goalkeeper Randall Zapolski (Lawrence) made eight saves.

The Rider men’s tennis team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Siena on Saturday morning. The Saints won three out of four tiebreakers, taking the overall match 6-1. For Rider sophomore Marc Ashed (Vineland) won at fourth singles 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-7.

Cross Country

The Rider men placed 17th of 20 and the Rider women were 25th of 25 teams at the high-powered Penn State National Invite Friday. For the Rider men, senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) placed first for the Broncs, 53rd overall, covering the 5.2 mile course in 27:22. Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) was 77th overall among the 222 runners in 27:45. For the Rider women, junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed 119th among the 278 runners, covering the 6,000 meter course in 23:49. Junior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) was 148th in 24:34.
