Freshman Lauren Musumeci (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) scored her team-high fourth goal of the season to lead Rider to a come-from-behind victory over Saint Joseph’s Tuesday. With the scored tied at 2-2 Musumeci took a pass from sophomore Alison Brody (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and scored with just over six minutes left to play. Junior defender Erin Mahar (Barnegat, N.J./Colonia) scored her first career goal 8:24 in the second half to get Rider on the board, and junior Michelle Matricardi (Abington, Pa./Abington) tied the score at 2-2 with her first goal of the season just five minutes later. Rider out-shot St. Joe’s 22-11, including 13-6 in the second half. Freshman Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made seven saves, second shutout.

Field Hockey

Junior Tricia Crotty (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) scored 3:18 into overtime to give Rider a Northeast Conference win over Quinnipiac. Rider took a 1-0 lead with 12 minutes left in the second half on a goal by senior Steph Walker (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic), her third of the season and the 32nd of her career.  Crotty then scooped up a loose ball and went end to end, scoring her team-high fourth goal of the season and the 26th of her career.

Volleyball

Against Manhattan freshman Katelyn Thompson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) compiled 14 kills and 16 digs.  Freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) had 23 assists and six service aces.  Sophomore Amy Jeary (Depew, NY/St. Mary’s) had 20 digs, sophomore Brittany Hayes (Mitchelleville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) added 10 kills and junior Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) added eight kills and 13 digs.

The Broncs won for the fourth time in the last five games, defeating the New Jersey Institute of Technology Tuesday evening. Sophomore Nico Tramontana (Vineland/Sacred Heart) took a pass at the top of the box from freshman Jim Bradley (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) and shot the ball into the upper left corner of the net to give Rider a 1-0 lead just 6:14 into the game. The goal was Tramontana’s second of the season. Sophomore Kevin Juska (Wall) scored his team-high third goal of the season on a corner kick from senior Lee Tomasso (Westfield) to give Rider a 2-0 lead with seven minutes left in the first half. Freshman Andrew Cotes (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) scored his first collegiate goal with seven minutes left in the game on an assist from junior Anthony Gilbert (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) to secure the victory. NJIT scored on a penalty kick with 13 minutes left in the second half, cutting the Rider lead to 2-1. Rider junior goalkeeper Randall Zapolski (Lawrence) made five saves.

Senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a 71 and finished at even par 140 to win the Leo Keenan Invitational hosted by St. Bonaventure.  On Monday, Rider shot a 304 and finished with a two-day total of 592 placing fifth out of 14 teams.  St. Bonaventure won the overall team title with a 580. Junior Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 75 for a two-day total of 146 and placed 12th out of 74 golfers.  Freshman Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) shot a 79 and finished with a 151 finishing 32nd.  Freshman Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) shot a 79 for a two-day total of 155 (47th place) and sophomore Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) shot an 81 (two-day total of 165) and placed 70th.

At the Bronc Invitational junior Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) won the 5.0 mile race in 25:51.40. Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) was second, senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) was third and freshman Michael Soroko (Kinnelon) was fourth. For the Rider women junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed third among the 51 runners, covering the 3.1 mile course in 19:21.60.  Rider freshman Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) was fourth and junior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) was fifth.

Against NJIT, senior Jim Leone (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) won at sixth singles and teamed up with sophomore Mike Straub (Abington, Pa./Abington) to win at third doubles. Freshman Josh Rultenberg (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) won at second singles, sophomore Marc Ashed (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) at fourth singles and freshman Chris Esposito (Ocean Grove, N.J./Neptune) at fifth singles. For the Rider women, junior Danielle Cheong (Singapore/Republic Polytechnic) won at fifth singles.
