Rider Announces Schedule

LAWRENCEVILLE—An ESPNU television game and home games against in-state rivals Princeton and Monmouth highlight the 2007-08 Rider women’s basketball schedule that was announced Friday.

The head coaching career of Rider alumn Lynn Milligan opens with a home game against Monmouth on November 9 and the Broncs are scheduled to appear on television February 29 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Siena.

“It is a great opportunity for Rider University and the MAAC to appear on television,” said Milligan.  The exposure that we are going to receive for our program and the University has our players and fans very excited about the upcoming season.”

Milligan returned to her alma mater as the 19th head coach on April 24, 2007 and inherits a team that returns 11 letterwinners including senior guard Janele Henderson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) who averaged 10.5 points per game in 2006-07.

Rider opens the conference schedule against Canisius at 7:00pm on December 7 and hosts defending MAAC Champion Marist February 17 at 2:00pm.  The Red Foxes advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA National Championship Tournament last season.

In addition to the 18 game MAAC schedule, the Broncs travel to UMBC November 11.  Other non-conference home games include Hofstra (November 15), Central Florida (November 23), Towson (December 2), Army (December 12), Princeton (December 29) and Virginia (January 2).  Road games include the U.S. Naval Academy (November 18), Penn (November 28) and a trip to Houston, Texas to play Rice on December 20.

“The non-conference schedule is going to be competitive,” Milligan added.  “We have a good mix of teams from solid conferences like the Atlantic Coast (ACC), Colonial Athletic (CAA), Conference USA and the Patriot and Ivy Leagues.  The non-conference games are definitely going to prepare us for the rigors of the MAAC schedule.”
