The Broncs’ unbeaten streak ended at eight games with a loss to Towson Sunday afternoon. Towson scored with a little over 10 minutes left in the first half, and scored again just 54 seconds into the second half. Against Drexel freshman goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made three saves for her second shutout in five games. Rider out-shot Drexel 13-10. Both teams had two shots in the second overtime.

Field Hockey
At Rhode Island Rider junior Tricia Crotty (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) had a goal and an assist with fellow junior Diana Celebre (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem) notching the eventual game winner. Crotty scored her third goal of the season and the 25th of her career just 3:39 into the game off a Michaela Franey (York, Maine/York) pass after a scramble in front of the goal. Franey, the two-time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week leads the Broncs with five assists.

Volleyball
At Niagara sophomore Brittany Hayes (Mitchelleville, Md./Elizabeth Seton) had 14 kills and four blocks with junior Lacey Johnson (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) adding 15 digs and two blocks. Freshman Katelyn Thompson (Tucson, Ariz./Catalina Foothills) had 16 kills with fellow rookie Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) adding 13 digs and two blocks. Hayes has 12 kills at Canisius, freshman Amanda Piccolini (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) had 14 assists with sophomore Shannon Bures (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) adding 11 assists and five digs.

The Broncs won their second consecutive game, defeating Saint Joseph’s Saturday night. Rider took a 1-0 lead when sophomore Kevin Juska (Wall) scored his second goal of the season just 3:20 into the game. Juska headed in a pass from junior Colin Jennings (Wall). Freshman Jim Bradley (Sewell/Washington Township), who scored the game-winner in the closing moments against Philadelphia U. on Wednesday, scored again with just 42 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Like the game-winner at Philadelphia U., the goal came on a pass from junior Anthony Gilbert (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South). Junior Randall Zapolski (Lawrence) made eight saves in the Rider nets for his first career shutout.

Cross Country
Both the Rider University men’s and women’s cross country teams placed first of four at the Bronc Invitational Saturday morning. For the Rider men junior Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) won the 5.0 mile Rider course in 25:51.40, setting the pace for the first four finishers all wearing the new Rider logo. Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Somerset/Franklin Twp.) was second (25:52.50), perennial top finisher senior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) was third (25:59.00) and freshman Michael Soroko (Kinnelon) was fourth (26:04.10). Senior Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) was eighth (26:19.70). For the Rider women junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) placed third among the 51 runners, covering the 3.1 mile course in 19:21.60. Rider freshman Chelsea Callan (Hazlet/Raritan) was fourth (19:33.50) and junior Megan Crowe (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert’s) was fifth (19:35.70). Sophomore Lauren Lester (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) placed 10th (19:57.80).

At Bucknell senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a 72, 70 and another 70 and placed runner-up out of 84 golfers, one shot behind the medalist. Junior Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 222 placing 15th after a final-round 73, freshman Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) shot a 227 overall after scoring a 77 on Saturday to place 30th, freshman Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephens Episcopal) shot a 79 for a total of 229 to tie for 36th and sophomore Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) shot an 83 for a two-day score of 229 to finish tied for 36th.

Against NJIT, senior Jim Leone (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) won at sixth singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 and teamed up with sophomore Mike Straub (Abington, Pa./Abington) to win at third doubles 8-2. Also posting wins for the Broncs were Josh Rultenberg (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) at second singles (6-1, 6-4), sophomore Marc Ashed (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) at fourth singles (6-4, 6-4) and freshman Chris Esposito (Ocean Grove, N.J./Neptune) who posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth singles. For the Rider women, junior Danielle Cheong (Singapore/Republic Polytechnic) won at fifth singles 6-2, 6-2.
