Rider 3rd at Bucknell Invitational
Brewington 2nd of 84

LEWISBURG, Pa.—The Broncs competed this weekend at the 16-team Bucknell Invitational hosted by the Bison at par 70, 6,310 yard Bucknell Golf Club and placed third with a team score of 883 after shooting a 299 in the final round on Saturday.  “The tournament was a great learning experience for everyone,” said head coach Bob Whartenby.  “Hopefully our younger players learned a little bit on how to finish a tournament off and how important each shot is on the final results.”

For Bronc senior Tyler Brewington, the every shot is important theory was especially apparent finishing one-shot out of the lead for the 54-hole tournament.

Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a 70 and placed runner-up out of 84 golfers, one shot behind Bucknell’s Stuart Lindgren.  Brewington was down five shots with four holes to go before making the final charge.  “I was paired with Lindgren today and he played very well this weekend,” said Brewington who won the 2006 Bucknell Invitational posting a three-round total of 211 helping Rider win the overall team title.  “I gave it a run at the end but he was able to hold on.  Overall it was a good weekend.  I’ve been struggling with my putting and I need to work on some things in order to get back into the win column.”

Bucknell won the overall team title for the third time in five years with a score of 867, followed by Temple with an 876.

Also for the Broncs, junior Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 222 placing 15th after a final-round 73, freshman Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich./Pendleton) shot a 227 overall after scoring a 77 on Saturday to place 30th, freshman Jordan Wycoff (Fort Washington, Pa./Saint Stephens Episcopal) shot a 79 for a total of 229 to tie for 36th and sophomore Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) shot an 83 for a two-day score of 229 to finish tied for 36th.

“This was a competitive tournament,” Whartenby added.  “The more we play in competitive, pressure situations, the better off we will be.  All of the players can look back and find one or two shots over a 54-hole tournament that they would do different and this weekend illustrates just how important each shot is.  I almost want to have a player lose by five shots than one shot because you could start over analyzing instead of just playing.”

“You can always look back on what was,” Brewington added.  “You are trying your best on every shot but golf is a crazy game.  You can lose just by having a bad hole and dropping three or four shots.  And this weekend, one shot did mean the different between first and second.  You just go out and work on specific areas of your game to try to eliminate the bad holes.”

The Broncs travel to Olean, New York September 23-24 for the Leo Keenan Invitational at St. Bonaventure University.
