Drexel Invitational
Lubcher / Juska All-Tournament Honors

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.--The Broncs lost to host Drexel Sunday in the second round of the Drexel Invitational Soccer Tournament.  “The guys played much better than we have been,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.  “Much, much better. By far the best we’ve played this year. It was a good game.”

A late goal by the host Dragons (2-0-2) with less than eight minutes remaining in the second half gave Rider (0-3) a loss in what has to be considered the Broncs’ best effort so far this season.

Rider sophomore Kevin Juska (Wall) and junior Evan Lubcher (East Brunswick) were named to the all-tournament team. “Kevin Juska had another great game and Evan Lubcher played very well for us today,” Fager said.

Rider out-shot Drexel 12-11, including 7-3 in the second half. “The game was mostly ours,” Fager said. “We had possession for most of the game. We just didn’t score.  We had several chances that either went wide or were saved by the keeper. We had five or six quality chances. ”

Rider’s best chance came when sophomore Cam Bertel (Manheim Twp., Pa./Manheim Township) hit the cross bar in the closing moments of the game. “We had some quality chances,” Fager said. “Cam hit the cross bar and we thought it was in.”

Rider junior goalkeeper Randall Zapolski (Lawrence) made three saves, all in the first half. “Randy played relatively well,” Fager said.

Rider plays at Philadelphia University Wednesday.
