Rider at Colgate Invitational
Brewington 3rd of 75 /
Rider 4th of 15 teams

HAMILTON, N.Y.—Rider senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a five over par 77 on Sunday to finish with a two-round total of 146, placing third out of 75 golfers at the Colgate Invitational at the 6,915 yard Seven Oaks Golf Course in New York.  “It was there for the taking for Tyler,” said head coach Bob Whartenby.  “He battled through some bad weather.  It was raining off and on so it made it a little tougher than yesterday.”

Brewington entered play tied for first after shooting a three-under par 69 on Saturday.

“I got off to a bad start,” said Brewington.  “I made a couple of bogeys in a row and never really got into the grove that I was in yesterday.  The rain made it a struggle to battle back and make up shots.  I am disappointed finishing third.  I have won some tournaments in the past so I expect to be right up there on the leader board.  I always try to do my best but it is always nicer to win.  Finishing third kind of humbles you a little bit.”

“Tyler had a few bad holes where is couldn’t get some puts to drop,” Whartenby said.

“That kind of cost him in the long run.”

Junior Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 79 for a total of 155 to finish 21st.

Freshman Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass.) shot an 83 for a 161 and finished 43rd, freshman Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich.) shot an 82 for a weekend total of 165 finishing 58th and sophomore Dan Toomey (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) carded a 79 for a two-day total of 166, finishing 62nd.

“I think the freshman played better today,” Whartenby added.  “I think it is an experience thing.  We’re going to keep them in the lineup and the more they play, the better they will get.”

Rider shot a 317 on Sunday for a total of 623 placing fourth of 15 teams.  Host Colgate won the tournament with a 597.

The Broncs travel to Lewisburg, Pa., for the Bucknell Invitational Friday and Saturday.
