Rider at Colgate Invitational
Brewington tied for 1st
Rider 4th of 15 teams after Day One

HAMILTON, N.Y.—Rider senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a three under par 69 on day one of the Colgate Invitational and is tied for first place out of 75 golfers at the 6,915 yard Seven Oaks Golf Course in New York.  “Tyler came into the tournament with a ton of confidence after his experiences over the summer,” said head coach Bob Whartenby.  “He got it going early and shot a 31 on the front nine.  He is playing with something to prove.”

Brewington spent the summer competing at the 107th United States Amateur Championship and at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic on the PGA Nationwide Tour.

“It was fun today,” said Brewington.  “I had missed the tournament with an injury last year so I wanted to come out and play well.  I like this golf course and I hit the ball pretty well today.  I had some good shots and some bad shots but overall I was pleased.”

Junior Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 76 and is in 12th place, freshman Brian Accorsini (Hopkinton, Mass.) shot a 78 in his first collegiate round and is in 29th, freshman Brent Wolgast (Bay City, Mich.) shot an 83 and is in 57th place and sophomore Dan Toomey (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) carded an 87 and is in 70th.

“We have some young guys on the team but they are all very talented so I don’t really have to lead them in that way,” Brewington added.  “I am able to help them get into the routine of going on trips and overall what college golf is all about so I am able to share my experiences with them in that respect.”

The Broncs shot a 306 team score and are in fourth place, nine strokes behind Colgate.

“As a senior, the younger players see how he acts and reacts to certain shots and he is setting a good example for them to follow,” Whartenby added.  “Golf is a learning experience after every round and the more Tyler puts himself in positions to succeed, the better he is going to get and the more successful we will be as a team.”

The final round of the tournament will be played Sunday.
