The Broncs extended their unbeaten streak to five games with a tie at Hartford Sunday in the second round of the adidas/Hartford Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Hartford. Rider was 2-0-1 over the final three games of the 2006 season. Junior Amanda Scully (Bloomfield) tied the score at 1-1 with less than 10 minutes left in the first half off of a pass from junior Lauren Mahar (Barnegat, N.J./Colonia), and scored again less than two minutes later to give the Broncs a 2-1 lead. Scully was named to the all-tournament team along with freshman Lauren Musumeci (Annandale/North Hunterdon), freshman goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and senior Shana Herman (Cherry Hill East). Musumeci scored two goals to lead Rider to victory over George Mason in the first round of the tournament and was named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. Alex Post made five saves for the shutout in her collegiate debut against Mason, and made six saves against Hartford.

Field Hockey

Junior Tricia Crotty (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) had two goals and junior Caitlin Mebs (Cinnaminson) added a goal and an assist against New Hampshire.  Freshman Michaela Franey (York, Maine/York) added two assists and was named the NEC Rookie of the Week. Freshman Amanda Barretta (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) gave Rider a 1-0 lead over West Chester for the first goal of the season for the Broncs and the first in the career of Barretta.

Volleyball

Freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) earned All-Tournament team honors at the Temple Invitational to begin her collegiate career. At La Salle junior Lacey Johnson Aurora, Colo./Grandview) compiled her 22nd career double-double with 14 digs and 10 kills.

The Broncs lost the season opener at Longwood Sunday. The Lancers scored an unassisted goal with just 58 seconds left in the first half. Longwood out-shot Rider 16-5. Junior goalkeeper Jesse Forsythe (Costa Mesa, Calif./Mater Dei) made five saves.

The golf team returns senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton), who recently shot an eight over par 78 in round one and a four over par 74 in the second round, missing the cut by five shots at the 107th United States Amateur Championship August 21-22, held at the Olympic Club in California.

The men’s team returns three former All-MAAC harriers, seniors John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) and Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury) and junior Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan). The women return junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven), who was 20th among the 121 runners at the 2006 MAAC Championships.
