Volleyball
Freshman Elyse Grassmuck (Seguin, Texas/La Vernia) earned All-Tournament team honors at the Temple Invitational to begin her collegiate career. At La Salle junior Lacey Johnson Aurora, Colo./Grandview) compiled her 22nd career double-double with 14 digs and 10 kills.

Field Hockey
The Broncs are picked to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference this season. The Broncs return junior Tricia Crotty (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley), a first team All-Northeast Conference selection last year after leading the team in goals, assists and points, and senior Steph Walker (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic) who enters this season ninth on the all-time scoring list with 73 points. Walker earned second team All-NEC honors as a freshman and a junior, and first team All-NEC as a sophomore. Against West Chester freshman Amanda Barretta (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) gave the Broncs an early 1-0 lead with her first collegiate goal.

With the return of 13 letterwinners, including six players who started 10 or more games last season, the Broncs will be young for the 2007 season, but should very much be in the thick of things in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Rider graduated five players who had over 60 games under each of their belts. The Broncs lost two-time All-MAAC goalie and three-time team MVP Dan Riverso to graduation along with three of the top four scorers from last season. Rider’s top scorer of 2006, sophomore Mike Juska, is red-shirting this season with a broken leg. The returnees are led by seniors Lee Tomasso and Mark Ockenhouse, juniors Colin Jennings, Evan Lubcher, Anthony Gilbert and AJ Parillo and sophomore Owen Castle.

With the return of 15 letterwinners, including 10 upperclassmen and eight starters, the Rider University women’s soccer team is ready to return to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference playoffs and compete for an NCAA berth. The Broncs are led by seniors Stephanie Madden, Shana Herman, Amy Vinarsky and Michele Ripoll. Other returning starters include sophomore Alison Brody, junior Michelle Matricardi, junior Kayla Devlin, sophomore Stacy Belgiovene and the Mahar twins, juniors Erin and Lauren.

The golf team returns senior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton), who recently shot an eight over par 78 in round one and a four over par 74 in the second round, missing the cut by five shots at the 107th United States Amateur Championship August 21-22, held at the Olympic Club in California.

The men return All-MAAC harriers Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan), a junior, and seniors John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) and Jeff Stead (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury). The women will be led by junior Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson).
