Rider Ranked 26th

LAWRENCEVILLE--The Rider University wrestling team is ranked 26th in the WrestlingReport.com Preseason 2008 National Rankings and six Broncs begin the season ranked among the top 30 in their respective weight classes. “We are pleased to be recognized as a Top 30 team and will look to improve on that ranking as the season unfolds,” said Rider Associate Head Coach John Hangey.

Senior All-American Don Fisch (Williamstown, N.J./Delsea) begins the 2007-08 season ranked fourth at 141 pounds, after placing fifth in the nation at the NCAA Division I Championships last season.

Senior T.J. Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) is ranked 13th 197 pounds, junior Doug Umbehauer (Shamong, N.J./Lenape) is ranked 14th at 174 pounds, junior Mike Kessler (Randallstown, Md./Owings Mills) is ranked 22nd at 149 pounds, junior Zac Cunliffe (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell) is ranked 26th at 133 pounds, and sophomore Mike Miller (Wilmington, Del./Brandywine) is ranked 28th at 184 pounds.

“We are very pleased to have this many individuals ranked amongst their respective weight classes nationally,” Hangey said. “ We feel that each of these young men have worked hard to be where they are right now in their careers and hope to see them progress even further to become All-Americans.”

Morrison is a three-time NCAA qualifier who was named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team. Morrison won two matches at the 2007 Nationals and finished his junior year with a record of 31-11.

Umbehauer was ranked as high as 12th last March by Amateur Wrestling News after placing second in the prestigious Midlands Championships. He won his weight class at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships to earn his second trip to Nationals with a record of 28-10 last year.

Miller compiled a record of 24-15 as a Rider rookie last year, finishing second in the CAA tournament and advancing to the NCAAs.  Miller was named to the CAA All-Rookie team.

Kessler is a two-time NCAA qualifier and finished the 2006-07 season with a 21-13 record as a CAA runner-up.

Cunliffe was a 2005-06 CAA champion and began the 2006-07 season ranked 18th in the nation before a knee injury caused him to red-shirt last year.

Fisch compiled a 4-2 record at Nationals to finish last season 33-10, the most wins on the team and owns an 89-25 record for his career heading into his senior year.
