The Rider men’s tennis team completed its fall season on Saturday, falling at Saint Peter’s in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match. “We didn’t do badly for not practicing for three straight days,” said head coach Ed Torres. “The last time we played was Tuesday and Saint Peter’s has a backup indoor facility to practice and play in and we don’t.” |

The Broncs defeated the Red Flash in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon. “It was good for us to play a team that we were pretty even with,” said head coach Ed Torres. “As you can see by the tie-breakers, the teams were evenly matched.” |

The Broncs swept the Seahawks in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon. “Everyone played well,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We’ve played a tough fall schedule so it was nice to get the win today. It was a morale booster.” |

The Broncs were swept in a non-conference match at Monmouth Tuesday afternoon. “Monmouth has a veteran team,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We battled but they were just a little too experienced.” |

They weren’t fit to be tied, it just seemed that way. The Rider men’s tennis team lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match to Siena on Saturday morning with the Saints winning three out of four tiebreakers. “It was a close match,” said head coach Ed Torres. “Much closer than the team scores indicated.” |

The Broncs defeated the Terriers in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon. “Overall, we played well today,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They (St. Francis-NY) were a little short handed but their number one and number two guys were pretty good. It was a good win and we’ll take them when we can get them.” |

The Broncs lost a high spirited non-conference match to the Explorers Tuesday afternoon. “The all-important doubles point is what decided the match today,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We were up 7-4 and lost 9-7. In any close match, 90 percent of the time, the team that takes the doubles point will win the overall match.” |

The Rider men’s tennis team was swept by Marist in the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener Monday afternoon. “Marist is the premier team of the MAAC,” said head coach Ed Torres. “We were missing a couple of guys due to injury and Marist was a little more experienced.” |

Despite a win at first singles from junior Casey Jedlinski, the Broncs lost a non-conference match against Lafayette Friday afternoon. “I thought Casey played very well,” said head coach Ed Torres. “He was facing a former Middlesex County champion and kept the ball under control and was able to pull out the win.” |

Both the Rider men’s and women’s tennis teams were swept at Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday in a non-conference match. “It is a great experience for us to play a strong team like FDU,” said head coach Ed Torres. “By playing better teams, you yourself get better as a player.” |

One of the greatest tennis players to ever compete in a Rider uniform, Rider University tennis coach Ed Torres of Wall is still competing, and still winning. Torres recently won a gold medal in singles at the New Jersey Senior Olympic Games September 8 in his new 75-79 year old age bracket. “I was playing in the 100 years old and up bracket,” Torres joked. Torres also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles, playing against 60-year olds. |

The Broncs opened the 2007 fall season with the men winning and the women losing to the New Jersey Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match. “N.J.I.T. had the better team on the women’s side,” said head coach Ed Torres. “On the men’s side, it was an exciting match and came down to freshman Josh Rultenberg winning his first collegiate match when the team score was tied at three all. He played very well and beat a strong player in a pressure situation. Everyone was watching his match because it was the final one of the day.” |
