October 3, 2007 - Monmouth 6 Rider 1

Kristina Paich

The Broncs lost to the Hawks in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon.  “It’s tough to start out so short handed,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “The matches we were in were for the most part competitive and the players gave a good effort.”

Despite a win at first doubles and taking two singles matches to the third set, the Broncs were swept at Manhattan in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Sunday afternoon.  “The number one doubles team played very well,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “They took a decent Manhattan doubles team and defeated them.”

September 26, 2007 - FDU 7 Rider 0

Both the Rider men’s and women’s tennis teams were swept at Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday in a non-conference match.  “It is a great experience for us to play a strong team like FDU,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “By playing better teams, you yourself get better as a player.”

Rider Head Coach Ed Torres Still Playing and Winning

Ed Torres

One of the greatest tennis players to ever compete in a Rider uniform, Rider University tennis coach Ed Torres of Wall is still competing, and still winning. Torres recently won a gold medal in singles at the New Jersey Senior Olympic Games September 8 in his new 75-79 year old age bracket. “I was playing in the 100 years old and up bracket,” Torres joked. Torres also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles, playing against 60-year olds.

September 15, 2007 - N.J.I.T. 6 Rider 1

Danielle Cheong

The Broncs opened the 2007 fall season with the men winning and the women losing to the New Jersey Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.  “N.J.I.T. had the better team on the women’s side,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “On the men’s side, it was an exciting match and came down to freshman Josh Rultenberg winning his first collegiate match when the team score was tied at three all.  He played very well and beat a strong player in a pressure situation.  Everyone was watching his match because it was the final one of the day.”
