Five players from Winchester will compete at 7:30 p.m. in Sunday's VBL All-Star Game between the North and South squads at Front Royal's Bing Crosby Stadium. The game will be preceeded by a home run contest at 4:30 followed by the 60 yard dash competition. Several MLB scouts will be on hand to take in the events.
Winchester will be represented by outfielder/pitcher LUKE GREINKE (.449 batting average, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs hitting; 1-1, 2.81 ERA, 20 strikeouts in 252/3 innings pitching); pitcher MIKE PETROWSKI (2-1, 2.90 ERA, 27 Ks in 31 IP); pitcher KYLE RAWLINGS (2-1, 2.90 ERA, 19 Ks in 31 IP); outfielder RYAN SEMENIUK (.339, 1 HR, 11 RBIs); and outfielder JAKE SWINT (.269, 1 HR, 4 RBIs, 16 stolen bases.
The Royals (12-13) lost to the Front Royals Cardinals 8-7 on a soggy night at Bridgeforth field. Danny Lopez scored the winning run coming in from 2nd base after a force out at home. On the previous play Kyle Elder was forced at home. His slide into catcher Jarad Barkdoll knocked him to the ground. When Lopez came in Barkdoll was unable to hold the ball.
Luke Greikes 3 run homer in the 8th had tied the game at 7.
The Royals took a early 4-0 lead in the first as Ryan Sontag hit a 2 run homer and Will Delawter hit a solo shot.
The Cards tied the game at 4 as they scored four unearned runs.
The Royals comitted 7 errors for the night and struck out 17 tmes.
Andrew White took the loss while Kevin Krimmel got the win. Joel Brookens closed out the 9th to earn the save for the Cards.
