Rider Signs Two
LAWRENCEVILLE— Cintella Spotwood, a 2007 graduate of Trenton Central High School, and Shannon Ferguson, a 2007 graduate of Upper Dublin (PA) High School, have signed national letters of intent to further their education and athletic careers at Rider University, Rider head coach Lynn Milligan announced.
Spotwood earned Associated Press All-State honors as a senior, graduating with over 1,000 career points. Spotwood led Trenton High to a NJSIAA Group IV state title in basketball.
“I am thrilled Cintella has chosen to be a Bronc,” said Milligan of her first recruit as the new Bronc head coach. “She is a winner and knows what it takes to be successful. Cintella's versatility and athleticism will be a great asset to the program. She is a terrific young lady with a bright future.”
Ferguson is a 5’11” small forward from Fort Washington, PA who earned First Team All-League honors as a senior at Upper Dublin High School, after leading Ursuline Academy to a Delaware state title as a junior.
“Shannon is a tough competitive player who will who will be a great addition to our program,” Milligan said. “Her game is suited to play inside or outside. She is a tireless worker who loves the game.”
A four-year starter, Ferguson averaged 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks per game as a senior, earning team MVP honors.
Spotwood is an outstanding all-around athlete, starring on the TCHS soccer team as a goalie and was a standout shot putter on the track & field team, earning 12 varsity letters in high school.
“Both of these players will have an immediate impact on our program and we are very excited to have them join the Rider family,” Milligan said.
Spotwood and Ferguson join Tammy Meyers of Willingboro as newcomers to the Rider team. Meyers transferred to Rider from George Mason University and sat out last season while attending Rider. A 5’9” guard/forward, Meyers played in 11 games for George Mason in 2005-06, averaging over seven minutes played per game. At Willingboro, Meyers averaged 21.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game in 2004-05, earning South Jersey Player of the Year and second team All-State honors.
