Dan Riverso of the soccer team, and Megan Smith of the volleyball team, have been named the Rider University Athletes of the Month for October.

Rider University senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso was named to the second team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference soccer team, it was announced at the championship tournament Wednesday night.

Rider University senior goalkeeper Dan Riverso was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for all games played October 23-29.

Rider University seniors Tim Jones and Dan Riverso were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in the final week of their careers, with Jones being named the Offensive Player of the Week, and Riverso being named the Defensive Player of the Week. “I think it’s great that we got these awards,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “I wish it would have happened more often.”

On Senior Day, the Broncs ended the 2006 season with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Manhattan Sunday on the play of three seniors. “This was a great way to end the season,’ said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “The guys did well for themselves, they played well, and that is what we were after.”

Senior Jacob Kratt (Moorestown) used his head more on Friday than he usually does, first while taking a test, then on an assist, and finally on the game-winning goal, giving Rider an overtime Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win over Saint Peter’s Friday. “I thought the boys played well today, we played hard,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “It was a good team effort. They gave everything they had to get the game won.”

The Broncs took on the 15th ranked team in the country and played right with Fairfield before losing Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. “We sure had our chances, no question about it,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “Our guys played about as good a game as they’ve played this year.”

In wrestling it is called sudden victory. In football it is called sudden death. In baseball it is a walk-off and in soccer it is referred to as Golden Goal. Today it was more like sudden death for the Rider Broncs. “We had our chances, but we didn’t deserve to win the game if we can’t take advantage of them,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The Broncs played a scoreless tie with Siena Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. “We came out and played harder, but once again we got some quality chances and didn’t capitalize,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The defending conference champion Red Foxes scored three goals in the second half for a come-from-behind Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over Rider Friday. “We should have won the game,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Canisius Sunday. “We simply got out-worked today,” said Rider coach Russ Fager. “They out-played us and today they were the better team.”

The Broncs tied the Purple Eagles in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at Niagara Friday. “We played with a lot of emotion today,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.  “We played hard.”

Despite out-shooting the Greyhounds 11-7, the Broncs began the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of their schedule with a loss to perennial MAAC Champion Loyola Saturday. “If we can play like this eight more times we’re going to find ourselves getting about six wins in the conference,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The Broncs fell to the defending Patriot League champion Leopards Tuesday for their third straight loss. “We were disappointed today,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The final day of September will be Soccer Alumni Day at Rider University, as the Broncs host Loyola College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s and women’s doubleheader.  “With this being a very big day in college soccer, as both our men’s and women’s teams host Loyola, we’re looking for a big turnout from our alumni, students, faculty and community to help support the teams,” said Rider men’s head coach Russ Fager.

The Broncs fell to the powerful Toreros of San Diego in Southern California Sunday.  The Broncs went 0-1-1 on their San Diego road trip, having tied San Diego State on Friday. “The road trip was beneficial because it provided a measuring stick for us,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.  “We saw what we need to work on to improve.”

The Broncs held off the powerful Aztecs for 110 minutes, coming away with a scoreless tie in their first game of a two-game trip to Southern California. “They are a very good side, no question about it,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

The Broncs lost to the host Bison in the championship game of the Geisinger/Days Inn Bucknell Invitational Saturday night. “The score did not indicate how well we played,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.  “We played extremely well. We put two very strong games together this weekend and I am very pleased with the weekend we had. The competition was very good.”

The Broncs, ranked ninth in the North Atlantic Region, defeated Duquesne, ranked fourth in the Middle Atlantic Region, in the first round of the Geisinger/Days Inn Bucknell Invitational Friday night. “Duquesne is a very good team, they came in undefeated, so we did okay for ourselves,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

By moving the game up four hours, the Broncs beat the rain on Friday, and proceeded to beat Longwood as well.

After beginning the season 1-0-1, the Broncs suffered their first loss of the season at Monmouth Tuesday.

Rider University sophomore Mike Juska was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for all games played the first week of the season.

Sophomore Mike Juska (Wall) scored two goals to give Rider a victory at La Salle Sunday.  The Broncs begin the 2006 season 1-0-1, with both decisions coming against Atlantic-10 teams. “1-0-1 against a pair of Atlantic 10 teams is a nice way to start the season,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager.

Rider sophomore Anthony Gilbert (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks South) scored his first collegiate goal to tie the score at 1-1, as the Broncs tied Richmond in the season opener. “That was my first one at Rider, and it felt great,” said Gilbert.

The Rider University men’s soccer team begins the 2006 fall athletic season this Friday in a home doubleheader. The women’s soccer team hosts Towson at 1:30 pm Friday, and the men follow at 4:00 pm against Richmond.

Dan Riverso, a senior goalkeeper on the 2006 Rider University men’s soccer team, was named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Team in a poll voted on by the league’s 10 head coaches.

The Rider University men’s soccer team has signed seven recruits for the 2006 season, Rider head coach Russ Fager announced.
