Edison, N.J. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announces Rider University’s Jazmine Fenlator and Siena College’s Laura Woolgar have been selected as the conference’s nominees for the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
To be eligible for the NCAA Woman of the Year award nominees must have earned a varsity letter in a NCAA-sponsored sport and competed during the 2006-07 academic year. Nominees also must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in their primary sport by the end of the 2007 spring season or received an undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the spring 2006 term. Nominees must also have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
The top 10 honorees from Divisions I, II and III will be honored and the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year, announced at a dinner in Indianapolis October 27, 2007.
Fenlator, a native of Wayne, N.J., has earned numerous accomplishments in her four years of competing in Track & Field. In eight MAAC championships (four indoor, four outdoor) she has been selected Most Outstanding Performer three times and has won 12 gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals. During the 2005-06 academic year, she was selected one of the top 25 performers in the 25-year history of the MAAC and was named Rider University Female Athlete of the Year.
Away from Track & Field, Fenlator is very active in community service programs such as Adopt A Highway, DAARSTOC and the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She has also served as a Student-Athlete Mentor and has been a team captain for two seasons. In the classroom, Fenlator has earned a 3.60 grade point average and is a Multimedia communications major.
Suffern, N.Y. native, Woolgar, completed her fourth year as a golfer during the 2006-07 academic year. She has finished in the top three at each MAAC Golf Championship she has participated in and earned a first place finish at the 2004 championship.
Academically, Woolgar has maintained a 3.66 grade point average, while majoring in Psychology. She has been selected to the Presidents List five times and earned a spot on the dean’s list twice. She is a four-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection and has earned All-American Scholar honors from the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Additionally, Woolgar has been active with the Ronald McDonald’s House of Charities since 2005, cooking meals for families and also helping with spring cleaning. She also assists students with writing papers and essays in her role as a Certified Peer Tutor at the Siena College Writing Center. From 2004 – 2006, Woolgar, spent six weeks teaching kids the fundamental skills of golf.
