Five Broncs at NCAA Regionals

LAWRENCEVILLE—Five members of the Rider University track & field teams are traveling to Gainesville, Florida for the NCAA Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Florida May 25-26.

Senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) will compete in the women’s shot put, discus and hammer, and senior David Payne (Neptune) will compete in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Sophomore Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken) will compete in the men’s long jump, sophomore Kelly Kajunski (Glenmore, Pa./Downington East) will compete in the women’s high jump and junior Rebecca Clatch (Drums, PA/Hazelton Area) will compete in the women’s javelin.

Fenlator, an eight-time All-East performer and the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Most Outstanding Performer, will throw the shot put on Friday and the hammer and discus on Saturday. Fenlator set the MAAC record in the discus (48.62m) earlier this month, and also won the MAAC shot put (13.28m) and the hammer (49.58m). Fenlator currently ranks 37th in the nation in the discus and 61st in the shot put.

Payne, a seven-time All-East performer and the 2007 MAAC Most Outstanding Performer, qualified for Regionals in both the 100 meters (10.46) and the 200 meters (21.10) at the MAAC Championships, winning both events in MAAC record times. Payne has trails Friday evening and finals Saturday evening in both events.

Hamilton won the long jump at the ICAAAA Championships last week with the fourth longest jump in the nation this year. His jump of  25’8.75” is long enough to qualify for the 2008 Olympic trials. It marked just the third time a Bronc won an IC4A event.  Hamilton also won the long jump (7.28m) at the MAAC Championships. Hamilton will compete Friday evening.

Kajunski won the high jump (5’10”) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, after setting a MAAC record with a winning jump of 1.75m, and will compete Friday afternoon.  Clatch threw the javelin 141’1” at the ECAC Championships, placing eighth, after winning the MAAC Championship with a toss of 40.46m, and will compete Friday afternoon.
