Rider Track and Field at ICAAAA Championships
Beck All-East Honors

PRINCETON—Rider University senior Doug Beck (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) threw 163’4” in the discus to place fifth, earning All-East honors at the ICAAAA Track and Field Championships hosted by Princeton University.  “Doug struggled early but bounced back and qualified for the finals with his last throw and moved all the way up to fifth,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello.  “It was quite a performance.”

Beck, who graduated with honors (magna cum laude) Friday morning with a dual major in Computer Information Systems and Entrepreneurial Studies kept the honors coming Friday afternoon after struggling on his first throws.  “It wasn’t ideal having graduation in the morning and then competing in one of the biggest meets of the year,” said Pasquariello.  “But Doug is the last person to ever make excuses and he overcame the emotions of the day to post an All-East performance.  To come back from barely qualifying for the finals to finishing with All-East honors is quite a turn around.  We may bring him back on Sunday to try for the NCAA Regional but if we don’t, it was a great way for Doug to finish his career.”

Junior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach, N.J./Matawan) also competed for Rider, placing 15th in the 10,000K with a time of 32:17.39.

Competition continues through Sunday.
