Eight Broncs MAAC All-Academic

EDISON—Rider University junior Tiffany Day-Neutill was named to the First Team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference softball team and was one of eight Broncs awarded MAAC All-Academic Team honors it was announced by the conference office Thursday.   “Tiffany had a great year,” said head coach Tricia Carroll.  “She played with poise and composure.  She did her part to help the team and didn’t let the pressure get to her.”

Day-Neutill (Agora Hills, Calif.), a junior Pre-Season All-MAAC selection led the conference in hitting with a .427 average.  Day-Neutill had 61 hits in 47 games with 24 RBI and 19 runs scored.  Day-Neutill enters her senior season with 154 hits, 16th highest at Rider.

“Tiff is a hard worker,” Carroll added.  “She works very hard in everything that she does, both athletically and in academics.  She takes nothing for granted and is willing to put it all out there.”

As effective as Day-Neutill was on the field, she was equally strong in the classroom, leading eight of her teammates with a 3.973 g.p.a., majoring in Biopsychology.

Joining her on the MAAC All-Academic team are seniors Ashley Boulden and Desiree Harbaugh, juniors Jessica Holland, Aimee Schiller and Mandi Sekly and sophomores Laci Landrum and Katy Mills.

Boulden (Brooklawn, N.J.) graduates with a 3.788 g.p.a. after majoring in Elementary Education/Psychology.  Harbaugh (Frederick, Md.) compiled a 3.600 g.p.a., and graduates with a degree in Elementary Education/Psychology.

Holland (Hatboro, Pa.) is a Communication major with a 3.392 g.p.a., Schiller (Moreno Valley, Calif.) is a Finance major with a 3.568 g.p.a., Sekly (Canyon County, Calif.) is an Advertising major with a 3.368 g.p.a., Landrum (Grand Praire, Texas) is a Management major with a 3.493 g.p.a., and Mills (Seattle, Wash.) is a Psychology major with a 3.473 g.p.a.

In the past four seasons, a total of 29 Rider softball players have been honored by the conference for academics and in the fall of 2006, the team finished with the highest team g.p.a. of Rider’s 20 varsity teams, accumulating a 3.44 g.p.a. This was the third time in the last five semesters that the softball team had the highest team g.p.a.

“It’s great,” Carroll said.  “The kids are truly student-athletes.  It has sort of been a theme with the program for a long time.  We recruit students who have academically sound credentials and they are committed to doing well both on the field and in the classroom.”
