MAAC All-Academic / 17 Broncs Honored

EDISON—The Rider University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams placed 17 athletes on the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team it was announced by the conference office Sunday night.  “It shows the kids commitment to not only excel on the track but in the classroom as well,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello.

The women’s outdoor track and field team won the conference championship on Sunday with the men’s team finishing runner-up.

From the women’s team, seniors Allyson Angelo, Katie Chin, Jazmine Fenlator, Jennifer Lee, junior sisters Rebecca and Elizabeth Clatch and sophomores Megan Crowe, Patrice Mahoney and Rebecca Riedel were honored.

From the men’s team, seniors Doug Beck and David Payne, juniors Joe Lucchio, Paul Matuszak, Randy Nixon, John Smith and Jeff Stead and sophomore A.J. Parillo were honored.

“We tell them when we recruit them that it is academics first and track second,” Pasquariello added.  “They take that to heart.”

Angelo (Brick, N.J.) is a Political Science major with a 3.43 g.p.a., Chin (Jackson, N.J.) is an Elementary Education/Psychology major with a 3.42 g.p.a., Fenlator (Wayne, N.J.), the Most Outstanding Female Performer at the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships is a Journalism major with a 3.55 g.p.a., Lee (Mount Laurel, N.J.) is an Actuarial Science major with a 3.25 g.p.a., Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa.) is an Accounting major with a 3.56 g.p.a., Elizabeth Clatch (Drums, Pa.) is an Accounting major with a 3.57 g.p.a., Crowe (Philadelphia, Pa.) is a Secondary Education/History major with a 3.22 g.p.a., Mahoney (Staten Island, N.Y.) is a Marketing/Advertising major with a 3.39 g.p.a., and Riedel (Milton, Del.) is an Elementary Education/Fine Arts major with a 3.31 g.p.a.

Beck (Branchberg, N.J.) is a Computer Information Systems major with a 3.67 g.p.a., Payne (Neptune, N.J.), the Most Outstanding Male Performer at the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships is a Finance major with a 3.55 g.p.a., Lucchio (Staten Island, N.Y.) is a Secondary Education/History major with a 3.47 g.p.a., Matuszak (Philadelphia, Pa.) is an Actuarial Science/Finance major with a 3.90 g.p.a., Nixon (Manorville, N.Y.) is a Finance major with a 3.32 g.p.a., Smith (Cliffwood Beach, N.J.) is a Secondary Education/History major with a 3.32 g.p.a., Stead (Fairless Hills, Pa.) is a Business Economics/Finance major with a 3.72 g.p.a., and Parillo (South River, N.J.) is a Global Business major with a 3.63 g.p.a.

Several Broncs will now compete at the Eastern Championships May 11-13 at Princeton, the men at the ICAAAA and the women at the ECAC.
