Rider Athletes of the Month
Fenlator, Payne Honored
LAWRENCEVILLE—Two members of the Rider University track & field program, senior Jazmine Fenlator and senior David Payne, have been named the Rider Athletes of the Month for April. “It's great to see David and Jazmine getting recognized for this award,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello.
Fenlator (Wayne) broke her own Rider record in the discus at the Duke Invitational while winning the shot put, and broke her own Rider record in the hammer at Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational while winning the shot put and the discus, and has qualified for the ECAC Championships in all three events.
Payne (Neptune) won the 100 meter dash in all four meets Rider competed in last month, including a 10.69 clocking at the Rider Invitational, a 10.70 at Princeton, a 10.78 at Duke and a 10.79 at the TCNJ Lion Invitational. He also won the 200 meters at Princeton (21.54) and at TCNJ (21.80).
A five-time All-East performer, Payne is currently ranked first in the MAAC in both the 100 and 200 meters. “David is finishing his career on a high note," Pasquariello added. “We expect more exceptional performances from him in these remaining weeks.”
Fenlator has qualified for the NCAA Regionals, held this year at the University of Florida, in the shot put, the hammer and the discus. “You don’t see too many women in the country do that,” Pasquariello said. “At this level most athletes are specialists. Sometimes you see women qualify in two events, but not three. That really shows her versatility.”
Fenlator currently ranks 37th in the nation in the discus and 61st in the shot put.
Rider hosts the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships May 5-6.
