PRINCETON—The Broncs were swept in a non-conference doubleheader by cross-town rival Princeton on Tuesday.  “We were missing a few players due to final exams but the players who were there did a nice job filling in,” said head coach Tricia Carroll.  “We just couldn’t get the ball to drop for us.”

Junior Tiffany Day-Neutill (Agoura Hills, Calif./Oaks Christian) had three of the six hits that the Broncs managed in the two games, including an RBI double that plated freshman Candice Harris (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) for Rider’s (7-34) only run of the day.

Day-Neutill, a pre-season All-MAAC selection entered the game 27th in the nation in batting average and is currently hitting .423, which leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and her 148 career hits are 20th best all-time at Rider.

“Tiff is seeing the ball well,” said Carroll.  “She is doing what we need her to do for the team.  She is a very unselfish player.  She never worries about her stats and all she is consumed with is how the team is doing and keeping her teammates positive.  She is doing her part trying to keep everyone up.”

Sophomore Laci Landrum (Grand Praire, Texas/So. Grand Praire) pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing only two earned runs while scattering seven hits.

“I challenged Laci to be more consistent,” said Carroll.  “She got a chance today and will throw again against Towson on Wednesday and I really need to see what she can do.  And she stepped up and did a pretty nice job.”

Freshman Laura Magliozzi (Granger, Ind./John Adams) went the distance for Rider in game two.  “Laura settled down hit and her spots as the game went on,” said Carroll.  “She gave up three home runs but got behind in the count.  When she got ahead, she was effective.”

One test on this final exam day for the Broncs was the play of sophomore Lauren Brunner (Chino, Calif./Chino) at shortstop.  “Truth be told, she played as well as anyone we’ve had at short this season,” said Carroll.  “She stepped up and made some nice plays so that really helped a shorthanded lineup.  She passed the test.”  Brunner was one for two in the second game.

The Broncs host Towson in the final non-conference test of the season with a  3:00pm doubleheader on Wednesday.  Rider closes out the regular season with two MAAC doubleheaders against Niagara and Iona, Saturday and Sunday.

“We couldn’t quite get the offense rolling,” Carroll added.  “We’ll have everyone available tomorrow (Wednesday) and we’ll go from there.”
