Broncs 2nd of 9 after Day Two
Rider's Brewington Leads Championship
LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA--Bronc junior Tyler Brewington shot a four under par 68 and Rider shot the low round of the day with a 296 on Saturday at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships in Florida. "We had good weather and no wind and we took advantage," said head coach Bob Whartenby.
Rider is currently in second place out of nine teams, two shots behind Siena (593) with a two-day total of 595.
Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) carded a 70 on Friday and has a two-day score of 138, holding a two-shot tournament lead over Will Shriver from Loyola.
"Tyler did well," said Whartenby. "You have to realize how hard it is to shoot any round in the 60's, especially in a conference championship. It is mentally tough to do because you start thinking about your score and you start making mistakes. Tyler did make some mistakes but more than made up for it with his putting."
Also for Rider, sophomore Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a one under par 71 for a two-day total of 145 and is currently in fourth place overall. Freshman Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) scored a 78 for a 155 total (19th), senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) shot an 83 for a two-day total of 161 (32nd) and senior Matt Ringen (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) shot a 79 for a two-day score of 170 (40th).
"Our top two players were both under par and that was huge," Whartenby said. "We did what we had to do and we've put ourselves in a great position coming into Sunday." The tournament is being played at Disney’s 6,852 yard Magnolia Golf Course with the final round on Sunday.
"We are kind of looking at this like we have nothing to lose," Whartenby added. "We are in a 'win-win' situation. We weren't expected to do this well since we came into the tournament with no team rounds under 300 and we've shot both rounds in the 290's so far."
