Brewington 2nd overall / Rider 2nd of 9 after Day One
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.— Rider junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) is in second place overall out of 45 golfers after shooting a two under par 70 on day one at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Golf Championships in Florida on Friday. “We had a good start today,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “We didn’t put ourselves out of it and if we play like we did today, we’ll be right in the hunt for the team title.”
Overall, Rider is in second place with a 299, three shots behind Siena College.
The tournament is being played at Disney’s 6,852 yard Magnolia Golf Course.
“I didn’t hit the ball well today,” said Brewington who is coming off the individual title at the Peacock Invitational last Tuesday. “I scrapped and made some important puts.”
Also for Rider, sophomore Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot two over par 74 and is in sixth place, freshman Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) shot a 77 and is 15th, senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) shot a 78 and is 18th with senior Matt Ringen (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) scoring a 91 for 43rd.
“I’m happy with the way the way the team played,” added Brewington. “Matt struggled but Jeff was able to step up and being under 300 really gives us a chance going into the weekend. We just have to stay under 300 each day to give ourselves a chance. We know that Matt will bounce back and that will help with everyone’s confidence having everyone in the 70’s.”
This marks the first time this spring that the Broncs have broken 300 as a team.
“Our one and two guys (Tyler and Eric) have to go low and if the rest of the team is steady, we will stay competitive,” said Whartenby. “I like the direction we are headed going into Saturday.”
