Rider Wins Peacock Invitational / Brewington Wins Tournament

NESHANIC STATION—The Broncs won the seven-team Peacock Invitational hosted by Saint Peter’s College on Tuesday afternoon shooting a 311 with junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) winning the individual tournament title with a one under par 71 on the par 72 Neshanic Valley Golf Course.  “Today was a huge help momentum wise heading into the conference championships,” said head coach Bob Whartenby.

“I finally figured out my swing,” said Brewington.  “I’m hoping to keep it with me at MAAC’s this weekend.  Today was definitely a boost for us.  The other guys on the team stepped up and overcame the wind and slow greens.  Everyone was able to put it together today.”

Rider sophomore Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) placed second overall out of 36 golfers with a 75.

“I played alright,” said LeFente.  “I didn’t play great but my misses weren’t too bad.”

Also for the Broncs, senior Matt Ringen (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) shot an 80 finishing 12th, senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) shot an 85 for a 26th place finish and freshman Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) shot a 92 placing 31st.

The Broncs travel to Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships at Disney’s Palm Golf Course Friday through Sunday.

We are looking forward to the conference tournament and playing well as a team,” LeFante added.  “Tyler pushes us to do better and when he is shooting well, that makes you want to play better.  Tyler leads us by example.”

“Loyola is probably the team to beat,” said Whartenby.  “However, there are legitimately four teams that can win it, Rider included.  We probably have one of the best one-two punches in Tyler and Eric and with the teams being so even, anything can happen.”
