Rider’s Brewington 15th
at Mt. St. Mary’s Spring Invitational
Littlestown, Pa—Rider placed 12th with a 938 and Bronc junior Tyler Brewington finished 15th overall out of 87 golfers on the final day of the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational held at the par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course Saturday. “I was much more pleased with how we played today,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “We kept our composure and kept the rounds together.”
Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot a 78 after rounds of 76 and 73 on Friday to finish with a score of 227 and the Broncs shot a 311 overall on Saturday.
“Tyler struggled a little but played well in the tournament,” added Whartenby. “Overall as a team, this was a good stepping stone toward MAAC’s next weekend. You have to believe that anything is possible and if we get a solid group effort, we could surprise some people. We just need to get some puts to drop. We finished today driving the ball well.”
“I was pleased with how we all played,” said Brewington. “I struggled a little bit off the tee but my teammates picked me up after I picked them up on Friday. So it was a good team effort. If one of us has an off day, another player steps up and that’s what we need.”
Sophomore Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot a 76 on Saturday, placing 28th with a 231 after scoring rounds of 75 and 80 on Friday.
“I think we’ve struggled a little because we haven’t had as much time outside,” Brewington added. “Now that it is warm and it will be warm on Tuesday and warmer in Florida next weekend, I think our scores will reflect that.”
Also for the Broncs, freshman Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) and senior Matt Ringen (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) each shot 240 for the tournament to tie for 55th place. Ringin had a 78 on Saturday with Krecicki carding a 79. Senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) placed 72nd with a 250 total after scoring a 79.
Longwood won the tournament with an 881, followed by host Mount St. Mary’s (902), Siena (903), Temple (906) and Iona (913). Longwood’s Adam Webb won the individual title by one shot with a 216 after rounds of 72, 74 and 70.
The Broncs compete at the at Peacock Invitational at the Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Neshanic Station, New Jersey on Tuesday before finishing the season at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at the Disney Palm Golf Course April 27-29.
“I think we are staring to put it together,” said Brewington. “We are all excited and we kind of enter the tournament as a sleeper so we are looking to compete hard and do some damage in the conference tournament.”
