Rider at Larry Ellis-Day One
PRINCETON—The Broncs are competing at the Larry Ellis Memorial Invitational Friday and Saturday, hosted by Princeton University. “It was a good, solid performance,” said Rider head coach Rob Pasquariello. “There is always good competition here at this meet.”
On Friday, senior Doug Beck (Branchburg/Somerville) won the men’s discus (160’4”) and senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne/Wayne Valley) won the women’s discus (152’8”).
“It was nice to get the win against good competition,” Pasquariello said. “Doug wanted to throw a little bit farther, but his distance was an IC4A qualifier. Jaz hasn’t been working on the discus that much lately but she went out and did what she had to do. The main reason we are here is to get a chance to compete at the facility where the Eastern Championships (men’s IC4A, women’s ECAC) will be held. It really makes a difference to have competed here prior to the Eastern championships, especially at Princeton, where the discus circle is a little different. It is weird to get your alignment correct back in the circle here so as many chances as we can get, as close as the meet as we can is an advantage for the kids that throw the discus.”
Also for the Broncs, junior Andre Fearon (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) placed eighth in the 800 m (1:52.54).
Sophomore Matt Dahl (West Keansburg/Raritan) ran a personal best 3:57.50 in the 1500m.
Junior Paul Matuszak (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) ran a 14:59.38 in the 5k, and junior John Smith (Cliffwood Beach/Matawan) ran the 5,000m in 15:06.48.
Freshman Jennifer Alksmant (Forked River/Lacey Township) placed third in the discus (127’7”)
Sophomore Kelly Wojciehowski (Fair Haven/Rumson Fair Haven) ran the 5,000m in 18:41.57.
The majority of the competition takes place Saturday.
