Mt. St. Mary’s Spring Invitational
Brewington 11th after Day One
Littlestown, Pa.— The Broncs are competing at the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invitational this weekend and shot a 317 and 310 for a 627 total in the first two rounds on Friday. Rider is currently 12th of 17 teams after the first day of action. “I’m frustrated,” said head coach Bob Whartenby. “We were on pace for both rounds to be under 300 and lost our mental focus on the last few holes.”
For Rider, junior Tyler Brewington (Orangeville, Pa./Benton) shot rounds of 76 and 73 on the par 72 Quail Valley Golf Course for a 149 total, good for 11th place overall out of 88 golfers.
“Tyler had some good shots and is in good position after the first day,” said Whartenby.
Sophomore Eric LeFante (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) shot 155 (75-80) and is in 38th place, freshman Kevin Krecicki (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) had a 161 (84-77) good for 58th, senior Matt Ringen (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) had a 162 (82-80) and is 63rd with senior Jeff Palmer (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) scoring a 171 (89-82) good for 79th place.
“I’m not sure if it was because we haven’t played as much due to the weather or if we just ran out of gas,” Whartenby said. “We need to be stronger down the stretch. We have some younger players and a little bit of a learning curve but we need to be sharper mentally so we can physically hit the shots we need to hit.”
The final 18 holes will be on Saturday.
Longwood is in first place with a 586, followed by Mount St. Mary’s (595), Temple (604), Iona (605) and Siena (606).
“It was nice to finally get some warmer weather,” Whartenby added. “We now have to take advantage and post some lower scores.”
