NEWARK, Del.—Despite four hits on the day from junior Aimee Schiller, the Broncs were swept in a non-conference doubleheader at Delaware Wednesday afternoon.  “We played better and hit the ball well in the second game,” said head coach Tricia Carroll.  “Delaware hit the ball well in the opener and we didn’t make the plays we needed to.”

For Rider (5-19) in game two, Schiller (Moreno Valley, Calif./Moreno Valley) went three for three with a double with fellow junior Tiffany Day-Neutill (Agoura Hills, Calif./Oaks Christian) adding two hits.

“Batting out of the nine hole Aimee has been huge for us,” Carroll said.  “Turning the lineup over is big.  Even when she didn’t get a hit, she hit the ball hard and that’s what we need from the lower half of the batting order.”

Delaware broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning with four runs before the Broncs rallied, scoring twice in the sixth inning on an RBI single by freshman Candice Harris (Las Vegas, Nev./Coronado) and sacrifice fly from sophomore Katy Mills (Seattle, Wash./Mount Rainier).

“Delaware is a good hitting team,” said Carroll.  “They seemed to hit everything in the first game and Jess (junior Jessica Holland) really shut them down in the second game.  She made a couple of mistakes but she kept us in the game and after the way the opener went, that’s exactly what we needed her to do.”  Holland (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) scattered six hits, throwing a complete game.

In the first game, the Blue Hens held Rider to five hits in the six inning win.  For Rider, Schiller went one for two with an RBI with freshman Megan Kozlowski (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock-North) hitting her first home run of the season.

“Megan has been hitting the ball well for us,” Carroll added.

Senior Ashley Boulden (Brooklawn, N.J./Gloucester) added a double for Rider.

The Broncs travel to Loudonville, New York for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader at Siena on Saturday.

“I told the players after the game that the season starts on Saturday,” Carroll said alluding to the conference opener.  “No one cares what you did the first 25 games, it is what we are going to do the next four weekends that is going to determine the success of the season.”
