Lafayette Six-Way Meet

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA—The Broncs won 11 events and set two team records at the Lafayette Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University Saturday.  “I thought we competed well,” said head coach Rob Pasquariello.  “We got some IC4A and ECAC qualifying efforts and also set two Rider records.  Both teams had a good day today.”

For Rider, senior Jazmine Fenlator (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) set a Rider record winning the hammer with an ECAC qualifying throw of 174’7”.  Fenlator also won the discus (150’11”) and shot put (46’6 ¼”), both ECAC qualifying throws.

Sophomore Tabatha Haskins (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) also set a Rider record in the 100 hurdles, winning with a time of 15.08.  Haskins also won the triple jump with a distance of 36’4 ¼”.

For the men’s team, senior David Payne (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) won the 100m (10.67) and 200m (21.49), qualifying for IC4A’s in both events.  Sophomore Desmond Hamilton (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) won the long jump (22’6 ¼”) and was second in the 200m with an IC4A qualifying time of 21.68.

“The teams really haven’t missed a stride going right from the indoor to outdoor season,” said Pasquariello.  “The elements are the biggest factor because you don’t know what you are going to get.  The techniques are a little different but the training is basically the same so we’ve been able to keep the momentum that we’ve built from the end of the indoor season and train right through.”

Senior Doug Beck (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) won the discus with an IC4A throw of 161’1” with sophomore A.J. Parillo (South River, N.J./South River) winning the 400m (49.87).

Also for the women’s team, junior Rebecca Clatch (Drums, Pa./Hazelton Area) won the javelin with an ECAC qualifying throw of 135’11” with her sister Elizabeth placing second with an ECAC qualifying throw of 134’3”.

“We’re getting good performances from a lot of different members of the team and that’s going to be critical as we head to Duke next week and aim toward the conference championships in May,” Pasquariello added.  “We are looking forward to some warmer weather and good competition as we head south next week.”

The track & field teams travel to Durham, North Carolina for the Duke Invitational April 6 and 7.
