(Ph.D., New York University) teaches courses related to law, criminal justice, gender and work, intimate violence, sexual harassment, and sexuality and the body. She is the founder and former Director of the university’s Law and Justice Program. She has received the Frank N. Elliott Award for Distinguished Service and the Ziegler-Gee Woman of the Year Award. She has published research on women and the law, on masculinity, and on gender in the legal profession, the garment trades and the printing industry. She is editor of Work Engendered: Toward a New History of American Labor. She has been a member of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, a Bunting Institute Fellow at Radcliffe College/Harvard University, Cornell University Institute for Women and Work, University of Pennsylvania Center for Early American Studies, and Rutgers University Center for Historical Analysis, and twice been awarded a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
