Alan R. Sumutka

Professor Sumutka, a member of the Rider Community since 1977, teaches undergraduate and graduate taxation courses.   He is the recipient of four teaching awards, including the New Jersey Society of CPAs “Outstanding Educator Award” and the Lindback “Distinguished Teaching Award.”  

Prior to entering academia, Sumutka worked for the “Big 8” CPA firm, Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., and pharmaceutical giant, Merck and Co., Inc.  Today, he operates his own CPA firm.

The recipient of many research leaves and grants, Sumutka publishes primarily in the area of taxation and is the author/co-author of more than 30 articles and 1 book.   His articles have appeared in The Journal of Accountancy, The Tax Adviser, Taxation for Accountants, The CPA Journal, and others.

He is a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and New Jersey Society of CPAs.
