Cynthia Lucia is associate professor of English at Rider University, where she has created the concentration in Cinema Studies for English majors and minors and is director of the Film and Media Studies Program. She teaches courses in film analysis, genre, comparative directors, national cinemas and film adaptation in the English Department, as well as interdisciplinary film courses in the American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Law and Justice programs. Dr. Lucia is advisor to The Alternative Film Club and coordinates the Movies in America Guest Speaker Series, as well as the Rider University Cinematheque. Dr. Lucia is author of Framing Female Lawyers: Women on Trial in Film (University of Texas, 2005) and writes for the film journal Cineaste, where she has served on the editorial board more than 20 years. Her published essays include, “Women and the Law: Spectatorship and Resistance in Female Perversions and A Question of Silence,” in Film and Sexual Politics: A Critical Reader (Cambridge Scholars Press); “Adapting Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity: Process and Sexual Politics,” in Authorship in Film Adaptaton (University of Texas Press); and “Teaching Nontraditional Hollywood Narrative: Reversal of Fortune’s Reversal of Convention,” in Lesson Plans for Creating Media-Rich Classrooms (NCTE publications), among others. She is currently co-editing a five-volume series of essays on American film history for Wiley-Blackwell publishers and writing a book on French filmmaker Patrice Leconte as part of the University of Illinois Press series on contemporary filmmakers.
