Undergraduate Teacher Education

As a student in the School of Education, you’ll have the opportunity to work with one professor during your time at Rider who will personally advise and assist you in developing your specific programs. In your classes, you will work directly with faculty who has been successful practitioners in their respective fields. Students enrolled in the Rider teacher preparation programs receive structured experiences working with children, teachers, school administrators, and community agencies.

Each undergraduate education course is taught in conjunction with a semester-long field experience in a public school where you’ll work with an experienced classroom teacher and a Rider professor two half-days a week.  Over the course of your professional preparation, you are placed in a variety of grade levels in both urban and suburban schools.

During your sophomore year, you’ll work as a teacher assistant. You will observe and help conduct learning activities the teacher has planned. In your junior year, you will continue to observe and assist and also plan for and teach individuals, small groups, and full classes.  In your final year, you will complete an entire semester of full-time student teaching.

At the undergraduate level, the School of Education offers three degree programs.

  • B.S. in Education, with a major in comprehensive business education and marketing;

  • B.A.  in Elementary Education, with a major in elementary education (including minors in early childhood education, middle school teaching, and special education).

  • B.A. in Secondary Education, with majors in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and world language (French, German, Spanish).
