Student Media Clubs

The Rider News

Rider's award-winning student newspaper is published on 22 Fridays during the academic year around campus and on the web. Students are responsible for all aspects of the publication, including selling advertisements; writing, editing,taking photos, and laying out the pages; submitting the paperto the printer in electronic form; and maintaining the website. Scholarship support is given to the executive editor and managing editor. The advisers are Dr. E. Graham McKinley and Dr. Thomas Simonet.

In the spring of 2006, The Rider News won first place for General Excellence in the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association's annual awards, and first place in the Northeast states for Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper in the Society of Professional Journalists' contest.

The Rider University Network (R.U.N.)

The Rider University Network is a student organization that produces television programs in the Department of Communication and Journalism’s Television Studio. Programs are regularly broadcast on the campus network and are available everywhere online. Current productions include:

  • News@Rider — a weekly half-hour of campus and community news.
  • Candid Campbell — an informational session with the Dean of Students Anthony Campbell and other campus guests.
  • On The Issues — a weekly sit-down interview program with important figures visiting the Rider University campus.
  • What's Shakin — a half hour of local, campus and national entertainment news.
  • WRRC Presents — a showcase of rock bands that are featured on the campus radio station. The program includes live studio performances and interviews with the band.

Scholarship support is given to the network's student producer.
 

WRRC 107.7 FM

The radio station broadcasts on a frequency of 107.7 MHz. Offering public-affairs programming along with entertainment shows that take advantage of an extensive music library, the station helps students polish both on-air and management skills. Jon Jones is the adviser. The WRRC-FM studios are on the ground floor of the Student Center; telephone (609) 896-5369 or (609) 896-5211.

Scholarship support is given to the station's general manager.
