Combined Bachelor of Music and MAT

Undergraduates in the Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree program at Westminster Choir College may petition the Department at the conclusion of their sophomore year, to add the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree to their program.  If accepted, they become students in a 5-year BM/MAT degree program.  They take elementary and secondary methods at the graduate level during their junior year. The following year they student teach and continue to take both undergraduate and graduate level courses.  During the fifth year, they take only graduate courses.  At the conclusion of the fifth year, students in the 5-year program graduate with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Westminster Choir College and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from the School of Education.  Certification comes upon graduation.  To enter the program, students must pass the sophomore portfolio review, have a 2.75 cumulative grade point average and have the recommendation of the full time faculty members of the Music Education Department.
