Ludmila Kapschutschenko-Schmitt received her Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania. She has taught at Temple University, the University of Pennsylvania, Lafayette College, and Vassar College.  She has served as Chair at Vassar and at Rider. Raised and educated in Argentina, her field of interest is Latin American and Hispanic-Caribbean literature.  In her book El laberinto en la narrativa hispanoamericana contemporanea  (1981) and in her numerous publications, she deals with a wide variety of topics ranging from the use of labyrinth as theme and structure in contemporary fiction, to the tango lyrics as a literary expression of popular culture. Several grants have continued to support her writing on the Hispanic literature of exile and on the Latino culture and writers in the United States.
