NJ Supervisor Certification Program
Program requirements
This program is designed for experienced and fully certified teachers to gain the necessary skills and professional knowledge to become supervisors in a New Jersey school district. According to the New Jersey Department of Education, the supervisor is defined as any school officer who is charged with authority and responsibility for the continuing direction and guidance of the work of instructional personnel. It is a coherent program that develops the reflective capacities of students to perform a wide range of supervisory functions in accord with the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers and School Leader, the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, and the standards set by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council. Students will be given opportunities to apply supervisory skills and knowledge to actual school situations.
Admission to the Program
Prospective students must meet the following requirements to be admitted to the program:
- Standard New Jersey teacher’s certificate
- Three years of approved full-time teaching experience* or its equivalent
- A Master degree from an accredited college or university
- Recommendations from two educational leaders to include one’s department chair, supervisor, principal, and/or superintendent.
*Applicants who present at least one but less than three years of teaching experience will be considered for admission under the assumption that three years of teaching experience will be reached upon completion of the program.
