Master of Arts in Special Education
The Master of Arts in Special Education Program is designed to prepare teachers to meet the needs of students with special needs in a variety of contexts. The sequence of course provides an advanced knowledge base in current theory and practice in special education. Included in the sequence are courses that fulfill the requirements for certification in New Jersey as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities. Students enrolled in the program have opportunities to develop their expertise and become confident in their ability to work with individuals with disabilities, and become leaders in meeting the challenges of diverse classrooms.
Program Goals
The goals of this program are to:
- Provide opportunities for teachers to become experts in current theory and practice in special education;
- To become leaders in the field of special education;
- Strengthen the preparation of all teachers to meet the needs of all children, particularly those with disabilities, in the general education classroom;
- Prepare certified teachers to teach students with special needs in a variety of settings, including inclusive classrooms and self-contained classrooms;
- Provide the opportunity for graduate students at Rider University to enhance their qualifications to meet increasing demands from school districts for teachers in this area of expertise.
