Arlene Wilner earned her B.A. in English at Cornell University, and her Ph.D. in English at Columbia University. Her teaching specialties include eighteenth-century English literature, children's literature, and the "Great Ideas" freshman honors seminars. Twice a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, she has contributed essays to a variety of annuals and journals, such as The Journal of Narrative Technique; Studies in Eighteenth-Century Culture; Eighteenth-Century Fiction, and Children’s Literature.  A Fellow of the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, she has published on writing pedagogy in Identity, Learning and the Liberal Arts (Jossey-Bass) and in English-Studies venues. She founded and directs BRIDGE, a University-wide faculty-development program now in its sixth year.  In May 2006 she was appointed to direct the university's Baccalaureate Honors Program.
